+Strangely though, Moses appears to outlaw the practice in Leviticus 26:1, but this law is overridden by Ihoh some forty years later when Ihoh instructs Joshua to erect a structure of menhirs in Joshua chapter 4, and the law seems to go pretty much unregarded henceforth as indicated in 1 Kings 14:23 and 2 Kings 17:10 which state that menhirs were erected "on every hill".
 Deuteronomy 16:22 links 'mexeb' with the [[qemim]].
