'berek' means "favor", but is typically translated as "bless". Often, the contextual use is clear that an act and pronunciation of favor is indicated, and therefore does not //necessarily// imply magical connotations as does [[eror]]. Sometimes it occurs withing a phrase "with your blessing" when the speaker is seeking permission from another person. Thus in this case "with your permission" is an equivalent phrase and 'berek' here can be taken to mean permission.

'Berek' is based on the root word [[bera]], and thus carries with it a sense of division, by way of an intentional choice.
'Berek' is used for both blessing((Job 1:10, 21)) and also for cursing((Job 1:5, 11, Job 2:5, 9)). Again the implication here is that someone else has the power to directly influence control over another by their choice to grant or withhold favor.
