=====helim===== Based on the root word [[hel]] meaning "profane" or "defile", a clear meaning for 'helim' is "the Profane Ones". With only four instances, this intriguing word lends itself to a relatively quick analysis with some surprising results. In two of the instances, found in Nehemiah 13:17 and Malachi 1:12, the regular meaning of profanity is intact. However, 1 Kings 1:40 and Psalms 87:7 are quite inexplicably rendered by typical translations as references to musicians (specifically flautists). This may not be completely surprising given the lingering reputation of musicians throughout history. Intriguingly, the Kings reference also alludes to the [[gedowlim]] and [[aretz]]. ---- This page is part of a series - see [[im]] backlinks for a dynamic list LexID = 92490
