סכ

A 'cek' is a small wooden hut used as a temporary dwelling.

Traditional translations often render 'cek' as “booth” or “tabernacle”, but sometimes “canopy” or “lair”. Contextual evidence identifies them as used for dwelling, for keeping livestock, and for feasting in.

Nehemiah 8:15 explicitly states that the 'cek' is a wooden structure, not a tent. - “ go out to the mountain and bring branches olive and branches of oil trees and branches myrtle and branches palm and branches of thick trees to make 'ceket'.

In modern Judaism, 'cek' is known as “Sukkot”, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles or Feast of Booths, a holiday that is celebrated for seven days, beginning on the 15th day of the month of Tishrei. Sukkot’s modern observance is characterized by festive meals in a temporary wood-covered hut.
