gedolim
gedolim
גדולים
'gedolim' is based on the root word 'gedol', meaning “huge”. Thus, the 'gedolim' are “the huge people”, or in other words “giants”.
Popular belief is that he giants are first mentioned in Genesis 6, in conjunction with the pelim (aka Nephilim), however this is not the case. In fact, Genesis 6 makes no reference to giants and in no way relates the gedolim to pelim. The gedolim actually appear in the first chapter of the book of Genesis, and also in 35 other instances.
