Gender
This will be landing page for examination of words relating to gender, and discussion of gender identity and gender roles in the ancient Hebrew texts. Several ancient Hebrew words may or may not refer to gender.
- as = “wife”
- ais = “woman”
- am = “girl”
- betol = “young woman”
- neyer = “girl” or perhaps simply “child”
- bet = “daughter”
- benot = “daughter” but perhaps incorrectly, as the etymology suggests “little boy”
- kel = sometimes translated either “bride” or “daughter in law”
- neqeb = “female”
- iled = probably “child” but sometimes translated “young woman”
