גוי
Goi means nation, but is often used in plural form גוים (goim) “the nations”, with the contextual implication of “other nations” (aside from that of the Hebrew narrator) so therefore the implicit meaning of “gentiles”, although the term “gentile” itself does not appear in the texts. Due to its similarity with goy, the term goim might be a slur with a literal meaning of “the Dead Ones”
The word may be cognate with a Proto-Indo-European root which evolved into English “govern”
