rey
רע
'rey' is traditionally translated “evil”, but might actually mean “care”.
The word first appears in Genesis 2:9 where it occurs within the phrase commonly translated as “the tree of knowledge of good and evil”. However, this interpretation needs to be reexamined based on the further contextual evidence. Many instances of 'rey' are translated vey inconsistently, with wildly varying interpretations including: “neighbor”, “protect”, “noise”, “harm”.
It is clear that reyim is based on the root word 'rey'. Further examination of contextual uses of reyim, therefore sheds much light on the meaning of the root.

The etymology of reyim seems to indicate that a more accurate translation of 'rey' might be the verb “to care for” or “tend”.
this bold claim is going to need a lot of evidence.
