'sekem' is sometimes interpreted to mean “predawn”, and sometimes “shoulder”.
The shoulder meaning probably stems from the appearance of the predawn sun hiding behind a hill, looking like a shoulder of the land. The name of the town of “Shekem” doubtless is named after this very phenomenon.
