Semantic Consistency
The Bara Hebrew Dictionary is the only ancient Hebrew dictionary in history to strive to interpret the ancient Hebrew lexicon in a consistent manner and eschew the wide variety of semantic interpretations of any given word that are commonly found in other dictionaries.
Why is that important?
Our mission is to honour the original authors of these ancient texts, by attempting to understand what they actually said, using the words they actually used.
This is quite unlike any other translation before it. Other translations have as their goal an attempt to comprehend a mysterious spiritual being who in their assumptions was and is the author. In many many instances words have been altered in these translations, in order to fit underlying assumptions about what the text is supposedly teaching.
For example, Genesis 1 is supposed to teach about how “God” created the universe. In order to do so, several key words are completely bent out of shape. Elsewhere, similar techniques are employed to support other false doctrines, such as the omniscience and immortality of this character known as “God”. All the while, “God” does not appear within the original texts.
How are we achieving this goal?
- fullsome inventorying
- thorough analysis of the lexicon
- thorough analysis of alternative spellings and root words
- thorough analysis of affixes
- assumption-free and doctrine-free contextual interpretation
- equal treatment for all instances
- equal treatment for all words
