Ostensibly translated “two”, in keeping with the typical grammar of numbers ending with the 'im suffix. There may be nothing more to it than that. These numbers may be the exception to the rule of the suffix's usual implication as not only a plural, but a living and intelligent plurality.

However, 'shenim' might be based on the root word sheneh, ostensibly meaning “year” or more generally “time period”.

Thus, the im suffix here might simply be a plural of year; therefore “years”, or more specifically “two years”. However, this overlooks the typical implication of the suffix as not only a plural, but a living and intelligent plurality.

If we hold fast to the typical im pattern, the Shenim may be rendered as “the annual ones” or “the periodic ones”. It remains to be seen if this will be borne out in the text. FIXME audit it
