'Teho' means “worthless”. It appears 19 times in the Hebrew scriptures. It also serves as the root word for tehom

Job 6:18, Job 12:24, and Psalms 107:40 speak of worthless paths that lead to nowhere. The context of these verses is that of pursuits that waste one's time and energy yielding no valuable results. Similarly, Isaiah 29:21 and Isaiah 59:4 mention worthless talk, while Samuel 12:21, Isaiah 24:10 speaks of wasting your time with worthless causes, trinkets, and worthless material possessions.

Isaiah 44:9 goes so far as to apply the term worthless to the craftsmen who make such trinkets.

Isaiah 24:10 & Isaiah 34:11 apply the term to the abandoned ruins of an ancient city.

It is with this understanding of the word 'teho' that we must approach Genesis 1:1.
