tsow
tsow
צו 'tsow' (often pronounced 'saw') means “command”.
Much like the word command in English, it seems to function both as giving someone a specific command to follow, or to give them command of an operation, leaving them in charge. This is quite fascinating because the person receiving the command is either:
- just following orders unquestioningly
- authorized to give orders and make decisions
In other words, they receiver of command either has no control over the situation OR is in control of the situation. further contextual analysis is needed to determine whether both of these opposing meanings really hold true.
The spelling inconsistencies of this word are a good example of why diacritics can't be trusted to create a consistent pattern of vowel sounds.
