merim
merim
מרימ
'merim' literally means “The Bitter Ones”. However, due to some range of meaning of the root word mer, it can also be interpreted as “the Ocean People”. This ancient word is cognate with the modern “mermaid” or “mer-man”.
'merim' appears only four times in the ancient texts; in Exodus 35:24, Proverbs 3:35, Proverbs 14:29, and Psalms 3:3.
Most traditional translations fail to recognize the word 'merim' and instead mistakenly convolute it with herim, remim, and irim.
